He got his BSc in 1987 and PhD in 1996 from East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST). In 1995 he stayed in the Department of Chemical Engineering of University of Virginia as a visiting student and in 2002 he stayed in LAGEP of University of Lyon 1 as a visiting professor. He became an associate professor in 1997 and a full professor in 2002 in ECUST. He served as the depute director of the State-Key Laboratory of Chemical Engineering at ECUST since 2004 and the director since 2010.

His doctoral dissertation was elected as the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation by the Ministry of Education (MOE) of China in 1999. Also in 1999 he was awarded as the Outstanding Young Teacher of Shanghai. In 2001 he was entitled as the Dawn Scholar of Shanghai by the Education Commission of Shanghai, and in 2005 entitled as the Elitist of the New Century by the MOE. Because of the successful industrialization of the reactor for vinyl acetate synthesis, he won the prize (second class) of China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec Group) in 2009.

His research covers catalysis and reaction engineering, microreactor technology and industrial crystallization. He has coauthored more than 200 peer reviewed papers, among which 170 were published in international journals. He is a member of the Asian-Pacific Working Party of Reaction Engineering, and member of the editorial board of Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering, the Journal of Chemical Reaction Engineering and Technology, and the Journal of Chemical Engineering of Chinese Universities.
